IB Principle: Balanced – We explained to the Squad how important it is to take care of their physical, emotional and mental well-being such as, eating healthy food, exercising and getting enough sleep as it helps us feel happy and calm.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad completed a worksheet where they identified missing beginning letters based on a picture. They then wrote sentences in their books using the “cat” method, placing each letter in the correct place and incorporating finger spaces. They also went on a scavenger hunt around the playground to find letters and then gathered in a circle to practice saying the letter sounds aloud and naming words that start with each letter.

Mathematics: This week the Squad completed a worksheet where they had to write in 2s, 5s, and 10s – they did a great job! We also had some fun practicing number formation on the whiteboards.

Creative Art: For art this week, Teacher Alexia led a hands-on lesson where she explained the paper-making process and then had the students create their own paper, they thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Tt – Trees

This week we began with ring time discussions about trees and all the wonderful things they give us such as fruit, nuts, flowers and seeds. We also continued working on our 3D shapes and carried on with our counting, pushing ourselves all the way to 50.

During one of our ring times we played a fun letter recognition game where I placed letters of the alphabet on the mat and called out a letter for the Crew to find. Each time we play they get quicker and more confident, and it is amazing to see how much progress they are making.

Monday’s FunFit Sport was a highlight with Coach Trevor. The Crew could not wait to see him again and they had so much fun playing cricket together. There was plenty of cheering and encouragement as they took turns.

Keeping with the theme of trees and wood, the children made the sweetest pinecone hedgehogs. They coloured in little hedgehog faces and then decorated their pinecones with treasures they collected on a nature walk. These turned out beautifully. We will be keeping these for our upcoming art expo.

Cooking time was especially interesting this week as we explored the different methods of preparing food and the importance of staying safe around hot things in the kitchen. We spoke about boiling, simmering, steaming, smoking, frying, baking, grilling and roasting. The Crew loved sharing how they cook at home and comparing their answers.

We also played a quick-thinking game where the Crew named as many brown objects as they could and then came up with words starting with the letter “t.” They are becoming more attentive to the sounds at the start of words and it is wonderful to see their listening skills growing.

To explore our 3D shape of the week, the kiddies decorated their own cones by drawing outlines on them and then colouring them in. Alongside this, we also practiced our name writing. Developing these writing and fine motor skills is so important, so I encourage you to continue practicing at home. Please remember when helping your child to write their name that only the first letter is capital and the rest are lower case.

Later in the week we completed some workbook activities focusing on the letter “t.” The Crew traced the letter and drew four objects starting with “t.” During ring time we extended our discussions by learning about the life cycle of a tree, how paper is made, why trees are so important and even where cinnamon comes from.

Music with Teacher Tegan was lively as we worked with tambourines to practice beats. The Crew had to listen carefully to follow the instructions and keep the correct rhythm. We also continued with our Jolly Phonics and letter sounds song which they are really enjoying.

Mind Ninjas with Teacher Avril was another highlight. The Crew started with tapping and clapping to help focus their minds before moving into wiggling activities to shake away any worries. They learned about crossing the midline and how this helps our brains and bodies work together. The children practiced slowing down, being gentle and peaceful to help regulate their big emotions.

Yoga this week was all about balance as we moved through a sequence of poses. We began with Mountain, then flowed into Tree, Aeroplane, Peacock, and Prayer before reversing the sequence back to Mountain. Balancing on one leg was a challenge, but the Crew tried their best and did so well. We ended with calming breathwork and relaxation – From Teacher Nicole

Next week we are very excited to begin our Puzzle Challenge and cannot wait to see how the Crew enjoy this new step in their learning journey. Have a wonderful weekend moms and dads.

We would like to welcome everyone back after a well deserves break. We look forward to a jam-packed Term 3.

The last two weeks we learnt all about Spring, Plants, Trees Wood and Paper.

The Hoppers enjoyed learning about spring, blossoms and trees. They enjoyed learning that a bud turns into a blossom, which in turn becomes fruit. The importance of trees, and all the amazing things trees can provide us. We observed in our environment what is made from wood.

For art we painted some wooden bases cut from branches that we are going to use to make a toadstool for our amazing art show in October. We went of a nature walk to collect sticks. We made a blossom tree by printing with bubble wrap and used the sticks we collected to finish off this amazing piece of art.

We did some fun baking. The Hoppers made a flower using a Marie biscuit and then they iced it and decorated it with smarties and mints.

The Hoppers had a lovely music lesson where they learnt all about patterns and beats using different mediums. This fun activity offered so many benefits like listening and concentration. Gross and fine motor development and creativity. Music is such a lovely way to express themselves in a fun and playful way.

Please remember our upcoming hat parade with the theme being Alice in wonderland {mad hatters tea party} Please remember these hats will be displayed at our art show in October.

 Happy Hoppers yoga!

Today was all about balance moving from 1 pose to the next balancing only on 1 leg.

Our pose sequence:

Mountain

Tree 🌳

Aeroplane

Peacock 🦚

Prayer pose 🙏

Peacock 🦚

Aeroplane Tree 🌳 Mountain

It is a difficult sequence for the little Hoppers, but they tried their best and did so well. Followed by breathwork and relaxation 😌

Have a wonderful weekend.

This week has been such a busy, fun-filled learning adventure with our Busy Bugs 🐞✨. Our theme was all about wood, paper, and trees 🌳🍂. The Bugs had so many curious questions and shared wonderful ideas as we discussed:

  • What trees give us and what we can make from them (like paper, wood, and even yummy fruit 🍎).
  • How to keep trees strong and healthy so they can keep growing 🌱.
  • Who makes their homes in trees – from tiny insects 🐜 to birds 🐦 and even squirrels 🐿.

It was so lovely watching their little eyes light up as they learned just how important trees are to our world!

For art activities this week, the Bugs got extra creative 🎨💫. Together as a group, they painted a beautiful, big tree that we will be proudly keeping for our Art Expo. They also made the cutest little sheep 🐑, using their fine motor skills so carefully. On top of that, we started on some more special art pieces that we can’t wait to show off at the expo – it’s going to be such a magical evening!

We also played some fun colour-matching activities 🌈, where the Bugs had to follow instructions and listen carefully. They amazed us with how well they focused and matched all the colours – we are so proud of their growing listening and concentration skills! 👏💖

Our Busy Bugs Yoga this week was all about balance 🧘♀️🌸. The Bugs practiced moving through a special sequence of poses, trying their very best to stay steady on just one leg. It wasn’t easy, but they gave it their all, and it was wonderful to see their determination and giggles as they wobbled and tried again 💪🥰.

Here’s the sequence we practiced together:
Mountain
🌳 Tree
Aeroplane
🦚 Peacock
🙏 Prayer pose
🦚 Peacock
Aeroplane
🌳 Tree
Mountain

We finished off with calming breathwork and relaxation 🌬💆, helping the Bugs settle their busy bodies after all the movement. To end the session on a playful note, we had a bubble-popping activity 🫧 where the Bugs had to pop bubbles with just their fingers. They laughed, jumped, and reached so high to pop as many as they could – it was such a joyful moment!

It was a week full of learning, creativity, balance, and fun – and as always, our Busy Bugs made us so proud with their energy, enthusiasm, and smiles 🐞❤️

What a week it has been in our Playful Pups class! We are officially back in full swing after starting our 3rd term last week, and this week was our first proper full week of school. And what a busy one it has been!

Our theme for the week was Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper — though to be completely honest, between settling in our five brand-new little Pups and smoothing over a few wobbly drop-offs, we didn’t quite manage to turn into a team of mini-botanists just yet. But let’s call it a “soft start” to the theme (kind of like stretching before a run)  after all, every strong oak tree starts as a tiny acorn, right? 🌳

The real highlight has been watching our class grow, quite literally, with the addition of our new friends. Just like planting new seedlings in a garden, we’ve been carefully nurturing and helping our newest little learners settle into their new surroundings. We’ve had a few morning tears (from children, not teachers… mostly 😉), but they have been short-lived and quickly replaced with smiles, cuddles, and happy playtime.

I have to say, I am incredibly proud of our newbies! They’ve adjusted so beautifully, bravely stepping into a brand-new routine, meeting new friends, and learning that school is a safe, happy place to be. And to our “old faithful’s” — the children who’ve been with us since the beginning of the year, thank you for being so welcoming and setting such a wonderful example. The Playful Pups really are a pack, and it’s been heartwarming to see friendships budding all over again. 🌱

So, while we didn’t exactly master the ins and outs of trees and paper this week, we’ve been busy laying down roots of a different kind: friendship, trust, and confidence. And those are the strongest foundations for any kind of growth.

Next week we’ll dig a little deeper into our theme (and maybe finally talk about why paper doesn’t grow on trees!). But for now, here’s to our brand-new, bigger, happier Playful Pups family.

Enjoy all the photo’s that go with this week’s blog, from classroom playtime, and FunFit sports with Coach Trevor and our newest offering with Teacher Ashleigh doing fine motor skills and  Happy Harmonies ( introduction to music) and some fun Colour matching Pom Pom fine motor skills which they all thoroughly enoyed.

Writing and Phonics: The Squad have been going over their alphabet letter names and sounds. We played a game where the letters were sprawled over the classroom mat and the children were asked one by one to find that specific letter. Afterwards they were asked to say a word that starts with that letter.

We also went over handwriting, and the children wrote sentences using sight words and CVC words. Focusing on finger spacing, and letter formation. We are pleased with how much focus and determination the Squad have had to make sure that their letters touch the lines and that they have been taking so much pride in their work. Well done!

Mathematics: The Squad have been counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. We have been asking the children to write numbers 1-20 and identify numbers 11-20 (double digit). Focusing that the number “1” comes first. Also recognising that they pronounce “teen” and not “ty” as in “thirt(ty)”.

We also went over addition using the counting on method. The children are asked to read a sum such as “7+7” they must then read the first number out and count on using dots to get the answer – this is a tricky concept but once they understand this – it will help them in the future.

Creative Art: Art Expo is just around the corner, and we have been completing our art pieces. This week we created cowboy boots. We can’t wait for you to see them!

FunFit Sports: Coach Trevor played T-Ball with the Squad this week.

Cooking: Teacher Hayley made “tree pizza’s” using dough, tomato paste, cheese and chicken viennas. We hope you all enjoyed it.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Welcome back to Term 3 parents and HAPPY Spring, this warm weather is so lovely and to see all the new green life!

We have had a lovely short week in the Curious Crew class. We started off our week with a colour in Spring worksheet. The Crew display such growth with their work after the August holiday. They sit working carefully not rushing through their work.

In the spirit of Spring we needed to take advantage of all the bright colours that come with Spring. We decided that a pretty Spring flower still life painting would be a great activity as our first art piece for the 3rd term. It was beautiful to see how the Crew used lots of different colours and took their time to create these beautiful masterpieces.

We will be concentrating harder than ever on the alphabet this term as well as getting the Crew to writing their name on their own. We were super impressed with the name writing activity we did, not only are they getting better with tracing over their names but when they write it on their own, they are showing great improvement.

At FunFit Sports this week the Crew got to get back into the swing of things with their ball, hand eye-coordination, with some cricket practice! The Crew are great sportsmans and love to cheer each other on when they up there ready to bat! A lovely sports session as always, thank you Coach Trevor.

Yoga was all about team work! The Crew started off with some Yoga stretches, focusing on core strength and hamstrings. The Crew then did some partner poses; tree, boat and table top. This made the Crew giggle and smile from ear to ear! Definitely a great Yoga session for the beginning of the 3rd Term. Thank you teacher Yoga!

Show and tell this week was pretty and colourful as the Crew brought bunches of flowers to show off to the class! There are some lovely pictures in the blog this week of the Crews Show and Tell. Enjoy.

Gerry is still doing his rounds in the Curious Crew class, let us know if there are any special weekends you would like Gerry.

Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper

This week we kicked off our Puzzle Challenge! I can’t wait to see the graph grow and who will be the reigning champion at the end of this challenge. It is also interest to see who has a competitive streak and how this challenge will bring that out. Let’s get building Crew! Don’t forget that you are more than welcome to bring puzzles from home to swop out with the puzzles in reception, they will be returned once puzzle challenge is over. Don’t forget to record the puzzles built on the Google document so we can keep track of the number of pieces being built.

Keeping in the spirit of Spring we decided to make beautiful sun catches. The Crew got to colour in their little suns with some bright pastel crayons and the pick pieces of coloured cellophane to go into the middle which we then laminated. And just WOW they look amazing. This piece of art is definitely one to treasure for years to come.

We did a challenging perceptual worksheet where the Crew had to colour in different halves of leaves. Once they had completed that, they were then tasked to cut them out, put together to 2 matching halves and then stick them onto a piece of paper.

We also decided to do some name writing again this week. Getting the Crew to practice on there writing/fine motor skills is very important in getting them ready for their reception year. Please practice at home as much as you can as well. And on that note, when practicing name writing at home please use the correct letter formation. Only the first Letter is a capital and then the rest are in low case letters.

We also did a tracing worksheet to go with those very important fine motor skills.

For cooking this week we did worms in the soil. During our morning ringtime sessions we spoke about how there are different layers of soil and which bugs live in the different layers of soil. Combining cooking and ringtime we made this concept more concert when putting together of cooking. Using crushed biscuits as the base with some sour worms and then some more cruched biscuits to cover the worms and then the sprinkled on some bronze sprinkles to add some ‘leaves’ to their ‘topsoil’. They enjoyed their cooking in class the same day.

At FunFit Sports this week the Crew enjoyed a game of T-ball, they used a pool noodle which is nice and light for them to swing but boy could they hit those balls far! It was super impressive.

The Crew were so happy to see Teacher Mo again this week after the holidays and what was the first thing they requestedrock music LOL. Teacher Mo had to give them what they requested before he could carry on with the lesson. So far the Crew have been introduced to, the blues, rock, jazz and classical music genres. Keep up your magical teachings Teacher Mo.

We would like to welcome everyone back from a much deserved break. We look forward to a busy but fun Term 3!

The last two weeks we learnt all about Spring, Plants and Trees.

The Hoppers liked to learn how spring brings blossoms to the trees. They enjoyed learning that a bud turns into a blossom, which in turn becomes fruit. The importance of trees, and all the amazing things trees can provide us. We observed what in our environment is made from wood.

For art we decorated our handmade paper, it was so fun to see how we can reuse paper into such a beautiful new piece. We did some paper plate sponging and went on a nature walk to collect sticks. We made a blossom tree by printing with bubble wrap and used the sticks we collected to finish off this amazing piece of art.

As a life skill, we learnt to grate. It was so refreshing to smell and taste the freshly grated lemons! All the Hoppers did so well with this life skill.

The Hoppers enjoyed a song for Yoga that got them standing up straight, balancing on one leg and working on their warrior 1 and 2 pose. We practiced our bear, snake and candle breathing techniques. Finishing off with a simple sequence of: tree, cat, cow and dog poses. What a fun class!

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend with the weather becoming hotter after a cold week. Enjoy the wonderful colours and smells the new season brings us.

Spring and Flowers

 Welcome Spring… Finally!

We had so much fun learning about Spring last week. We spoke about what happens during spring time; flowers blooming, the grass starts to go green again, leaves start showing on the trees and most importantly, the weather starts to get warmer! Yay!

We also spoke about having respect for plants, flowers and trees. We learned that we are not allowed to break or damaged a tree, and that we can only pick flowers if we are going to use them for something.

“Spring, a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can be.” Spring is all about new beginnings and changes. Spring brings new growth, weed out the bad and make room for something beautiful. Let’s all make it our Spring time goals, after such a challenging year, to make some changes, get rid of the bad in our lives to make space for beautiful things!

Trees, Plants, Wood and Paper

WOW!!! What a week we have had! We are so proud of all of our Bugs for doing so well with photographs! Uncle Tiago and Teacher Gemma (who was assisting with the photos) were blown away at how brave you all were, and how well you smiled!

We had a great week learning about trees plants, wood and paper and all the amazing things that can be done with them. We learned that trees are wood, and that wood is then used to make the paper that we create all of our beautiful art work on. We reinforced last week’s lesson about respecting nature and the beautiful world we have been given!

For art this week and last, we made the most beautiful blossom trees using our fingerprints. We made awesome recycled flowers using the bottom of a bottle dipped in paint for the petals, straws for the stems and beads for the center.

We also made a collaborative piece, “Busy Bugs friendship tree”. Each Bugs got their hand painted, told us who their best friends are and made their mark for their friends.

We hope you are all super excited and getting in touch with your creative sides for our amazing hat parade! We can’t wait to see the incredible creations!

Just a reminder to please send in cereal boxes!

Spring Blog: Our First Week of School

Our first week back was short but oh-so-exciting! We welcomed some sweet new friends into the Playful Pups classroom, and they’re already fitting in so wonderfully. It’s the best feeling to see all of our little Pups happy, thriving, and growing every day!

For our first art project, we made the most adorable see-through butterflies! We used laminating paper and colorful tissue paper, tearing them into tiny pieces and sticking them together. They’re so cute that Teacher Monette just had to keep them hanging on our classroom windows for everyone to admire—because they’re way too precious to send home just yet! He-he! 🦋

We also took a fun little trip down memory lane, refreshing our skills by practicing our colors and shapes. The Pups did an amazing job remembering them all!

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect start to the season! 💕🌸

Trees and Plants Blog: week 2

This week’s theme was all about trees and plants, and the Pups were so amazed to learn about all the different kinds of trees and how they grow! 🌳 When we talked about what plants need to grow, my clever Pups already guessed I was going to say water! He-he! They were all so excited to share what they knew.

For art, we made our own little trees by using our handprints as the tree trunks and rolling tiny tissue paper balls to create beautiful blossoms. The Pups weren’t too thrilled about rolling all those little tissue balls—ha-ha!—but the trees turned out *so* cute and colorful. 🌸

We also had lots of fun with our FunFit sports, doing gross motor activities, and oh my, these Pups are strong! 💪 They have such steady hands and impressive coordination.

We’re also hard at work on our Art Expo projects, and I’m *so* excited for you all to see the amazing creations we’ve been working on throughout the year! 🎨 It’s going to be pawsome!

Happy Monday!

Moral conscious theme: Respecting Nature & Our Bodies

We discussed how important our bodies are and how we should always look after them. We need to eat healthy and keep exercising. Just like our bodies, nature is equally important and how without it the world would be a very different place.

Writing and Phonics: We are very excited to have our Smart Squad back, we missed them over the August holidays and hope that everyone had a lovely break. This short week was used to settle into our new and busy term. We went over our sight words (from the beginning of the year). We also discussed our letter of the week and how we form this letter.

Mathematics: For maths this week we went over counting to 30 and back from 30. We counted in 2s, 5s and 10s. The Squad are getting better at this. We also practiced drawing a semi-circle.

Creative Art: The Squad this week completed a themed art piece which also fits into our theme for the Art Expo. They made their very own headbands and we have decided to display these at our Expo. This art piece allowed them to get their creative juices flowing – they had so much fun with this.

Music and Cooking: For cooking this week we decided to discuss different recipes and how to read a recipe. We went over how hot an oven needs to be and how we see the different quantities of the food items.

FunFit Sports: We did not have FunFit Sports but this will pick up again next week.

Trees, Plants, Wood & Paper: 11-15 September 2023

Week 2

Moral conscious theme: Honesty

We discussed how important it is to be honest. We explained to the Squad that lies catch up with us and if we lie once, we will have to lie again and again until it makes a big tumble of lies and then we can no longer keep up with our lies.

Writing and Phonics: This week we introduced two brand new sight words, “went” and “like”. We also went over all of our sight words and tested the children – we are pleased with their progress, but it is important to continuously go over these. We also introduced a brand-new word family ‘en’. The Squad used sound buttons to sound out their new words and then we completed our sentences using the cat method. This is something that can be practiced at home, and we do encourage this.

Mathematics: For maths this week we discussed that our numbers also have names, and they are spelled in different ways. We went over numbers 1-10 and the Squad had to match the number to their name, they also wrote the number and its name using lined paper. They did very well with this.

Creative Art: The Squad this week completed another art piece for Art Expo. We are getting so excited about this event and cannot wait for you to see how amazing their art is.

Music and Cooking: For cooking this week we went over how we can use different parts of nature to make things. We also use plants / herbs to garnish our dishes and to help us flavour our food. For music we have been practicing our graduation songs.

FunFit Sports: FunFit sports this week was so much fun and the Squad really missed Coach Trevor. They dribbled a soccer ball around cones and also practiced on their shooting skills. Well done!

Welcome back to Term 3! How time has flown that we are already in our last term of the year !

We have waited for this theme for months now!  As we started our term off with a super joyful and exciting ring time , we spoke about spring , and all the beautiful things that come with it . We also spoke about the order of the seasons , and what each one entails.

We enjoyed discussing our interesting colour of the week , and our shape which the kids enjoyed learning about. We also revised our phonic sounds and letters and well as our months of the year too.

Even though we’ve had a 3 day week , we made the best of the days we’ve had to talk about our theme..

ART

Our art activity for this week , is something small and special , that each family gets to take home and watch grow .

Each child was given a small container with an egg carton in as well as soil , they had to plant 2 sunflower seeds in , and water it to take home. PARENTS ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO PLEASE KEEP THESE PLANTS VERY MOIST AND WET

We also enjoyed some fun worksheets , we had to really explore our creative side as we had a free drawing of what we did in the holidays , we had to do a body image drawing too , as well as practicing and revising our number formation 1-20.

It was the perfect way to start off our 3rd term.

HEART MATTERS

Teacher Hela started heart matters off in an amazing way , she focused on the topic of givers and takers , and she did an amazing job teaching the children the difference and explaining that you should feel better in your heart being giver and not a taker.

The kids enjoyed colouring in hearts and giving them to someone they felt deserved the hearts.

Please remember that photos will be taken next week.

The Curious Crew really enjoyed this theme , they really loved part taking in ring time , learning about plants , trees and paper.

We took the time during ring time to explain how paper comes from trees , and why it’s so important to look after the trees that we have.

We spoke about the different plants we get , and we also discussed our favourite plants . Throughout the week too , we spoke about our sunflowers at home , and just how important it is to water our little seeds.

ART

For Art this week , we did some fun and simple activities that really got our creative juices flowing

We did a symmetry worksheet , where each child had to copy the leave as they saw the other side , they then had to colour it in aswell. Boy everyone’s colouring is improving so much ! Well done curious crew.

We also did a perceptual activity , where each child was given a worksheet with different leaves on , once they’ve coloured it in, they had to cut them out and place them with their matching sides. Everyone did so well in this activity.

We also enjoyed some fun worksheets , where we had to trace our names , and practice our numbers 11-20, it seemed like everyone just enjoyed this way too much !!

HEART MATTERS*

Teacher Hela took the time and focused on when we have a low self esteem, she helped the kids understand this , and also practiced ways and methods on dealing with this. It was a very practical way to get the kiddos to understand how to cope.

YOGA

Yoga Day!!

This week we did bilateral tracing patterns, which aid in hand-eye coordination and small motor movements.

The yogis traced a mirrored pattern using their left and right index fingers simultaneously.

Coordinating both sides of the body shows that both sides of the brain are communicating and sharing information with each other.

This activity can also be used as a calming breath technique.

Teacher Yoga was so impressed with how well our yogis did with the activity!! Well done, my super stars.
