Moral Conscious Theme: Do Not Waste Food – We explained to the Squad that they must only dish up a small portion of food and if they would like more then they can get more, this will limit food wastage. We also explained to them that a lot of energy goes into producing food, packaging it, and getting it to the store as well as the person who cooks the food for you whether it be chef Thembi or your family at home.

Writing and Phonics: This week Squad worked hard on remembering their sight words and received two new sight words for this week “come”, and “see”. The squad then did two worksheets on the “ab” family, they drew their sound buttons and then matched the words to the pictures. They then wrote put the “ab” family words followed by sentences using their “ab” family words. The Squad is really starting to master their handwriting, Great work!

Mathematics: The Squad completed a fun worksheet on “before and after”. They had to complete which numbers come before and after up to 20 and then did trace by number, they were chuffed with the result of the picture being a clown – they then coloured the clown in.

Creative Art: The Squad made their very own farm animals using recycled materials such as pringles tins and pinecones, they came out super cute and we will be keeping these for art expo.

Music and Cooking: On Tuesday for Music, Teacher Katy came and sang concert songs with the Squad, she taught them how to sing in tune.

We are completing assessments over the next two weeks; please could we ask that your child attends school every day.

We have had a jam-packed week completing assessments. Please note that there will not be many art pieces going home as the assessments have taken up a lot of our time this week.

We started this week off with a continuation of the farm. We spoke about farm animals and the type of animals we find on a farm and all their different sounds.

For art this week we made the most adorable chickens, the children got a picture with the different parts of a chicken, the body, wings, feet, and beak. They first coloured all the body parts, they then finger painted the body and lastly, we glued all pieces together and added some feathers to the wings. We ended up with the cutest chickens you have ever seen.

Our Hoppers created such amazing work that we will be keeping them for Art Expo!

For cooking on Wednesday, we made “piggies in the mud” We made our pigs out of marshmallows and our mud was yummy chocolate instant pudding. Delicious!!! J

Yoga day: We did a yoga story song called “Going on a dragon hunt”. It works as a listening, sequencing, and memory game. We listened to the instructions and then demonstrated all the various poses, actions, and breathwork in the story. At the end, the Hoppers were asked questions to see what they remembered. Our poses included: tree, boat, bridge, cow, frog, mouse, and lion 🦁

On Friday, our Hoppers had some fun learning where we get milk from, we made a cow from cardboard boxes and filled a rubber glove with milk and made little holes in the glove, we tried our hand at milking a cow…it’s not as easy as it looks J

Concert practice is going well, so proud of our hoppers for learning the words to our songs. Please remember to send in concert clothes. We would like to have these in by the mid-term break.

It has been an amazing week!

Please remember to dose up your little ones with extra vitamins, it is getting a lot colder and there are lots of germs going around.

Our theme next week is: Land, Air and Water transport

Have a safe and lovely weekend!

Wow! What an awesome week we have had of learning and lots of fun. During ring time we enjoyed discussing weekend news, our new theme, colour, letter, number, and shape of the week. We also enjoyed learning why a sphere is a 3D shape and not a 2D shape as well as some of our farm animals.

Writing and Phonics: This week the Squad worked on sight words such as he, she, look, play, on, no, I, here, is, in, the, me, at, it, we, said, yes. We introduced three new sight words “come”, “for” and “this”. We watched a short video on the Hen and then did sequencing on the order that the story went. We introduced syllables, everyone caught on to this quickly and were able to do the syllables of many different words including their names, well done Squad!

Mathematics: This week we recapped our numbers from 1 to 20 as well as counting in 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. We did subtraction sums by crossing out circles to get our answers. We also did a fun worksheet where we had to determine how many animals were in their herds and which one was “more” or “less”.  We did an addition worksheet where we had to count the number of animals and write the answers.

Life Skills: Persevere and do not brag – We discussed the importance of always trying your best no matter what, even when you fail, you must always try again because you never know what might happen, as well as to stay humble and not make others feel like they are less if they do not win.

Creative Art: We enjoyed painting and making our pigs using paper plates, buttons, and googly eyes. We are also making many art pieces for our art expo; we are so excited and can’t wait for you all to see them!

The squad have really impressed us so far!

Thank you and have a great weekend. See you all on Monday.

This was quite a busy week for the Curious Crew class. We managed to get through a lot of work and we are busy with assessments. We are so proud of the children and they are really performing well!

We started off the week with some assessment prep, focusing on colour patterns and measurement (biggest to smallest) as well as number and letter recognition.

The Crew, loved this week’s theme and during ring-time, Teacher Clarissa asked the children to make their favourite farm animal’s sound when she called their name. Wow, the sounds we heard were so funny! We were all laughing and giggling at each other! We read some more awesome books all about farming animals and what each animal’s purpose is on the farm. We incorporated the moral conscious into this week by reading a story where each farm animal would brag about what they do on the farm and say that they are the best and most important. The story concluded by saying that each animals plays a significant part in order for the farm to run and therefore there is no need to brag.

Another exciting thing we did this week was let the children choose which character they would like to be in the school concert. Every child got the opportunity to choose what they want to be so you will see you have been added to a WhatsApp group of the character your child will be in the concert. So exciting!

We started our letter Challenge this week and look forward to seeing the awesome work the children will be putting into this! Have fun mom and dads and feel free to take pictures and send them to us!

We completed such an amazing art piece this week and you will find some images in the blog of this. The children were asked to create their own farm. This is a Reggio Emelia concept where it brings out the child’s imagination by using different objects to create their masterpiece. Have a look! We were so proud of them!

We completed one more art activity on Thursday, the Crew were asked to colour in their very own baby chick and stick it on a page. They then covered the chick with an ‘egg’ and began to rip open the paper to uncover their special baby chick. They absolutely loved this art piece.

Over the next few weeks, we will be assessing the children – if we could please ask that you make sure that your child is at school so that we are able to assess him/her. Thank you kindly! We hope that you all have a lovely weekend filled with many memories shared together!

Keep warm everyone!

We started this week off with a continuation of the farm. We spoke about farm animals and the type of animals we find on a farm.

As we are learning about Farm Animals this week, we decided to teach the children about the life cycle of a chicken! We discussed this concept and watched a video. For our art piece we created the life cycle of a chicken, this was a sequenced art piece which promoted critical thinking, problem solving and fine motor skills. Our Hoppers created such amazing work that we will be keeping them for Art Expo!

For cooking on Wednesday, the children made “pigs in a blanket”, these were scrumptious!

On Friday, Tallyn from Busy Bugs, brought two little lambs for everyone to see. He showed us how he feeds them milk with a baby bottle. Our kiddies absolutely loved this experience!

Please remember to dose up your little ones with extra vitamins, it is getting a lot colder and there are lots of germs going around.

This is always such a favourite with teachers and children alike! Who doesn’t love a good, loud version of Old Macdonald?! There is so much to discuss and learn and so much to see and do.

This week we learnt all about The Farm and The Farm’s Animals. We learnt all about the different noises these animals make, and the different names that the boy and girl animals have, such as hen and rooster or sheep and ram. We learnt the names of the baby animals, like chick, lamb and piglet! It was such fun pretending to be these animals at ring time! Our children have very vivid imaginations and have a lot of existing knowledge about farm animals.

We played tons of farm animal inspired games this week. We went on a nature walk to visit the horses and feed them some yummy carrots and have a quick ride on Frankie, and watch the ducks and swans swim on the pan. We made such a gorgeous piece of art this week but because it is just too cute, we are going to keep it for the art expo!

We did however, do a small side art piece on Friday for World Bee Day! The Bugs got to colour in a little Bee and stick it onto a bee hive.

Show and Tell this week went so well! Thank you Arwen for bringing your adorable little bunny toy for us to see, and Tally for bringing the cutest little lambs ever for us to see and cuddle! We can’t wait for the rest of your turns!

Just a reminder to please label things – everything – even if just with initials. We have had a few cases of jackets and beanies going missing but there are lots of repeat items in the school and sometimes children go home with the same / similar item that they may have at home. It takes a while to work its way through the wash and then even longer for the double to be spotted. If things are labelled it just makes life that much easier! There are many layers that come off during the day and at playtime the children tend to remove their own shoes / socks and jackets as they feel warmer so we cannot always keep track of every item. Once it is returned to our classroom with no name, we often have no idea who it belongs to. Speaking of shoes and socks, please encourage the children to keep their shoes on in the cold. There will always be the odd shoe or sock that gets taken off but if we could try keep feet warm during the cold winter months that would be great!

Please also get your concert clothes in ASAP. We got lots of work and fun things to do to them, so the sooner they are in, the better!

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the colder nights where you can snuggle! Please keep safe and germ free!

Next week’s show and tell will be: Ayanda and Tadiwa

Another great week, with the theme being On the farm- Farm Animals! I hope your little ones have been singing your ears off with “Old Mac Donald!” and naming all the animals and sounds they make because we sure have been learning and practicing in class!
For art this week, our Pups made a horse out of a paper plate and we did some cork stamping to make pigs.
We also got our Pups to participate in a threading activity this week which is a fantastic activity for promoting fine motor development in young children. It requires concentration, thinking skills, encourages the use of the pincer grasp between the thumb and forefinger and naturally strengthens the small hand muscles that are vital for holding a pencil to write with, later on. We simply used pipe cleaners and old powder milk tins. We poked holes in the plastic lid for them to thread the pipe cleaner through … some grasped this technique so quickly while others needed more assistance.
On Thursday morning we took our Pups on a nature walk down to the ponies where they got to see Troy and Frankie. We asked the Pups what colour the ponies were and some shouted “green!”. We are getting to know all our colours but some Pups just seem to have a favorite and everything they see is either green or orange! How cute? We also got to collect grass which we then used for our art piece this week.
This is the third week of term two and for most of these Pups it seems as if they didn’t even have a month break, they are all back into routine and are happy going about their day. For the shyer Pups, some are shedding a few tears when being dropped off in the morning but this is absolutely fine and there is nothing to worry about, it takes two seconds for them to settle and then they’re off playing or doing an activity with their teachers. Us as adults don’t want to climb out our warm beds in the morning because it’s so dark and cold, so just imagine what it must be like for your little ones!?

We hope you all have a super weekend ahead, keep warm and safe. See you back on Monday!
